Grab Bar Installation and Metal Studs

How does one install a grab bar into metal studs? this is a question frequently asked of me by home owners and handymen alike. What I often do is insert a Toggler Snaptoggle right into the metal stud. after locating the metal stud with a studfinder, I drill a pilot hole, probe it with a short metal wire, and then expand the opening with a half inch bit once I am sure there are no obstacles with in the metal stud. I prefer to use carbide glass and tile bits to drill into the stud since they cut quickly and smoothly. With certain grab bars, it is necessary to trim some of the plastic on the snap toggle so that it does not protrude out from under the flange of the grab bar.
